aibIT Supports Digital Patient Management Solutions for a Resource-saving Organization of Corona Vaccination Centers
Mannheim, 04.12.2020 As a medium-sized medical technology company with more than 10 years of experience in digitalization and ensuring highly efficient and secure processes in hospitals, OPASCA offers a solution to meet the challenge of patient management of Corona vaccination centers as well. More than 60 major hospitals already rely on our solutions, which were developed and implemented specifically for the purpose of automation and digitization in the demanding environment of patient care.
In cooperation with aibIT, the Swiss expert for successful project management in the healthcare sector, the management solution for the first Corona test center in Switzerland has already been implemented at the new Bürgerspital Solothurn. aibIT has an expert reputation on the market as an IT consulting company and active project partner: all employees come from the hospital environment and more than 50 hospitals have relied on this know-how for almost 10 years. For this reason, OPASCA as solution partner and aibIT as Swiss implementation partner have joined forces for the first time!
The Corona vaccination strategy and the respective responsibility of the healthcare providers to implement it involves enormous logistical challenges in terms of coordinating patient flows in the local facilities. There is a desperate recruitment for staff to assist these centers with implementation.
One of the premises, in addition to the phased, rapid immunization of the population: the average vaccination time should be less than 2 minutes to achieve the daily required patient throughput. However, only the step of the actual vaccination is considered here – prior appointment, data collection, education, and post-vaccination patient observation for immediate reactions are also organizational steps that require resources and must be managed as efficiently as possible.
The topic of digitization in hospitals has occupied Swiss health economists at least since the publication of the Winterthur Institute for Health Economics and the ZHAW. An online survey on the “Digital Maturity Level of Swiss Clinics & Hospitals” made it clear that although awareness is present, it is not yet being implemented for a wide variety of reasons.
However, right now, digitization and automation can help not only to make healthcare fit for the future, but also to be applied to the implementation and organization of the planned Corona vaccination centers, in order to reduce the required personnel expenses and to support the processes efficiently from a technical, organizational and procedural point of view, thus accelerating vaccine delivery. Currently, however, everything boils down to the fact that the vaccination centers are set up with the highest expenditure of resources and everything is done analogously, on paper and manually. This, in turn, is also associated with immense costs.
As has already been proven in many business and industry sectors, there are a variety of options on the market for administrative patient management that relieve the burden on specialist staff, make patient information available in an automated way, speed up procedures and make processes more efficient. Digitization and automation are the keys to efficiently organizing Corona vaccination centers so that vaccination can reach everyone as quickly as possible.
On-site management of up to 1,200 patients, simultaneous education of up to 50 people, privacy-compliant handling of patient data, automated patient routing through the entire process, automated provision of information in advance and during the process, including via SMS: this can reduce the actual vaccination process to 2 minutes.
