As part of the current "Law for a Future Program for Hospitals" (KHZG), the federal government, together with the states, provided up to EUR 4.3 billion in funding for digitization projects at hospitals. This is intended to promote necessary investments and thus significantly increase the level of digitization in German hospitals. This includes investments in modern emergency capacities - as well as in a better digitized infrastructure in the areas of internal and also cross-sector care. Funding is provided on condition that a hospital invests at least 15 percent in its own IT security. The KHZG contains mandatory and optional criteria. Those who fail to meet the mandatory criteria will face reductions in partial and full inpatient flat rates from 2025 onwards.
